Refresh Your Soul: Five Places to Take a Dip in Sonoma County

It’s the middle of July, the sun is beating down, and all you want to do is swim. Whether you want to float on your back in a peaceful lake, do some strokes in the river, or find a nice spot to stretch out on your towel and soak up the sun, we’ve got you covered!

1. Johnson’s Beach, Guerneville

Located along the meandering Russian River, Johnson’s Beach is a great place to take a cold refreshing dip in glistening turquoise water. Johnson’s Beach has a roped off kiddie-pond for young swimmers and beach chairs, umbrellas, and boats available for rent. Buy an ice cream from the snack bar, sink down into your foldable chair, and enjoy a beautiful summer day on the river.

2. Monte Rio Beach, Monte Rio

Located on the lower part of the Russian River, Monte Rio is a peaceful place to cool off. Play a game of volleyball or horseshoe and then take a dip in the cool water.

3. Lake Sonoma

Surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills, you don’t want to miss this serene oasis in the midst of the Sonoma heat. At Lake Sonoma you can do some laps alongside the shore, stare up the bright blue sky as you float on your back, or even rent a boat.

4. Howarth Park, Santa Rosa

Picture a beautiful lake for swimming, miles of hiking trails, picnic and tennis courts, and even an amusement park. Howarth Park is a great way to spend a hot summer day and keep the whole family entertained!

5. Spring Lake, Santa Rosa

Step foot into the picturesque lagoon, set against a backdrop of mountains and lush green forest. Or, if you’re looking for something livelier, be sure to check out the floating water park!
