Hang Ten! Surfing in Sonoma County

Dillon Beach

Dillon Beach is by far the best spot for beginner surfers. With a natural jetty to Bodega Bay, the area is safe and relatively enclosed. With small waves and even a local surfing school, it’s the perfect place to test the waters and practice your balance.

Doran Beach

This is another favorite spot with the locals. Partially sheltered from strong winds, Doran Beach is an optimal location for the experienced surfer. However, like most places, it’s important to keep track of surfing forecasts and be wary of the possibility of dangerous conditions.

Salmon Creek Beach

The water can be dangerous, with riptides and sharks, but if conditions are good this is a great location for the experienced surfer. On a good day the waves can be powerful, as water from the river mouth breaks over the sandbar. If you’re up for a challenge, check out Salmon Creek!

Black Point Beach, Sea Ranch

Like most of the other beaches, this is a spot for the experienced surfer. The surf can be dangerous, and there is a risk of unseen rocks and the threat of sharks. However, if you’re looking for a secluded surf spot in your area, check out Black Point Beach!
